Coastal Imageworks was conceived in the year 2000 and is the artistic playground of Colin Bates. He has been taking photographs for most of his life, and has been displaying his works publicly since the inception of Coastal Imageworks. His images have appeared in the Vancouver Sun, Queue Magazine, Canadian Musician Magazine, the permanent art collection of Canada's National Research Council, the Fredericton Airport, Princeton University Press, Lickle Publishing, the Mauritius Research Council, Blackwell Publishing, as well as in numerous young-educational and university-level textbooks. Colin has found artistic challenges and successes on both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Canada, is continuing his endeavor to capture spectacular images, promote biodiversity, and enjoy life to the fullest.

Colin has a Ph.D. in marine science through the Department of Botany at the University of British Columbia. When not selling photos in Vancouver, Colin can be found a) teaching at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre, or b) in the Canadian High Arctic & Greenland (boreal summer) or Antarctica (austral summer), where he works as a polar expedition guide & videographer. Colin lives in the beautiful and remote village of Bamfield, British Columbia, Canada, located on the west coast of Vancouver Island. You can view photos of Bamfield on Colin's Flickr page.

Upon leaving the Maritimes in 2002, Colin teamed up with two fine Frederictonians who continued his legacy in the East: Gerald Storey and Anthony Howland.

Anthony continues to handle eastern Canadian operations of Coastal Imageworks, and he also contributes photographic pieces of the Maritimes to Coastal Imageworks. Gerald has since moved on to bigger and better things.

Based out of Fredericton, New Brunswick, you can find Anthony at the Boyce Farmers Market every Saturday, or gallavanting around the Canadian east coast, spreading the gospel of Coastal Imageworks.

Rest assured, Anthony embodies the spirit of Coastal Imageworks. Indeed, we think its a marriage made in heaven, like plaid meeting burlap. For easten inquires, drop Anthony a line at:anthony (at)coastalimageworks.com
